A data tsunami sounds threatening, but the ever-increasing flow of data offers enormous opportunities. Data is like water; it comes from all sorts of different sources, and you have to filter and direct it. Otherwise, it remains murky and unusable.
At WML – Waterleiding Maatschappij Limburg – they know how to turn data into valuable information with the help of AVEVA. Information that is available to everyone, from the process operators to management.
The (process) data is collected, validated, and analysed to optimise drinking water production. It makes patterns identifiable and predictable, allowing production to be scaled up or down in a timely manner. Making decisions based on this information guarantees the water supply to more than half a million households and another 1,500 or so business customers.
In this case, it concerns water, but in fact, it applies to any (production) company that can be steered purposely on KPIs to improve performance by using the available data.
In the full 20-minute video presentation from the ICT Water Congress 2021, Geert van der Velden and Jasper Zondervan explain how WML has been taking strides with AVEVA since 2016. Continuous improvement – working faster, better and smarter – often starts with a low-threshold proof of concept. The advantage of having a clear goal with a defined scope is that results are achieved quickly. This is immediately visible to everyone, so it is widely adopted and supported within an organisation, and this will help you to start taking strides, just like WML.
